Product Overview

The Queensland SIV Fund is specifically designed as a complying significant investment. It is regulated under the Migration (IMMI 15/100: Complying Investments) Instrument 2015, pursuant to the Migration Regulations 1994, effective from the 1st of July 2021. This regulation caters to the Business Innovation (Provisional) Visa – Investor and Significant Investor streams.

By investing in the Queensland SIV Fund, your capital is automatically allocated across three compliant significant investments:

  2.  QLD SIV Emerging Companies Fund

  3.  QLD SIV Balancing Investments Fund

Fund Structure

The Queensland SIV Fund is a parent to sub funds investing in venture capital, emerging companies and balancing investments as required by legislation for the significant investor visa stream. Investors hold units in the parent fund and automatically have the specified exposure to each sub fund.

QLD SIV Venture Capital Fund

The Queensland SIV Fund wholly owns the QLD SIV Venture Capital Fund, a sub-fund investing in a variety of registered and conditionally registered venture capital funds. It also acts as an agent for the investor, as outlined in the complying investment framework.

According to the framework, 20% of an investor's contribution to the Queensland SIV Fund is allocated to the QLD SIV Venture Capital Fund. Southmore Capital Pty Ltd, a venture capital specialist, will manage the initial fund selected. This fund aims to invest in a combination of early-stage venture capital and small to mid-market growth private equity investments within Australia.

QLD SIV Emerging Companies Fund

The Queensland SIV Fund wholly owns the QLD SIV Emerging Companies Fund, a sub-fund which invests a range of ASX listed small cap stocks. The permitted investments for the portfolio of emerging companies are set out in the complying investment framework, which is managed for Rhodium Equity by a professional stock broking and portfolio manager.
 
The complying investments framework requires 30% of an investors Queensland SIV Fund investment to be allocated to the QLD SIV Emerging Companies Fund.

QLD SIV Balancing Investments Fund

The Queensland SIV Fund wholly owns the QLD SIV Balancing Investments Fund, a sub-fund which invests in a range of Australian real property sectors and focuses on agri-business, renewable energy, biofuels, and livestock farming. Specialist farm managers and business brokers provide investment ready primary production opportunities in Queensland, Australia.
 
The complying investments framework requires 50% of an investors Queensland SIV Fund investment to be allocated to the QLD SIV Balancing Investments Fund. Is the Queensland SIV Fund approved by Queensland government for visa sponsorship to Australia?
Veritasium has worked with Migration Queensland to ensure that the Queensland SIV Fund is a complying significant investment as set out in the Migration (IMMI 15/100: Complying Investments) Instrument 2015, made under the Migration Regulations 1994, Compilation No. 1 dated 1 July 2021, for the Business Innovation (Provisional) Visa – Investor and Significant Investor streams.
 
The Queensland government does not approve specific complying significant investments, however the Queensland SIV Fund meets the government's legal and policy settings at launch. The Business innovation and Investment Program is subject to federal and state government policy and may change in the future. Veritasium expects to continue our close relationship with government and remain compliant with changes when they occur.
Does the Queensland SIV Fund only invest in Queensland?
The Queensland SIV Fund invests in the mandated complying significant investments for Investor and Significant Investor Streams, which are generally venture capital investments, ASX listed emerging companies investments and real property balancing investments.
 
Our investment manager selects venture capital investments in Queensland as a priority. Balancing investments focus on real property projects and companies exclusively in Queensland. The emerging companies investments are set out in the permitted investments of the complying investment framework, and generally are small to mid-cap companies on the Australian Securities Exchange which may be located anywhere in Australia.
Can my business in Australia be one of the underlying investments of the Queensland SIV Fund?
The policy settings of government are aimed at delivering a direct foreign investment into the Australian economy and specifically the Queensland economy in the case of the Queensland SIV Fund. While there is no specific restriction on investors in the Queensland SIV Fund having a business involvement in underlying investments, such a business would be assessed on a case-by-case basis to ensure it meets government policy, the fund policy and the fund constitutional obligation to not disadvantage other fund members.
